  • Grapevine Hosts Monty Python Madness Event

    photo_servlet[1].jpg By: FOX4 News

Grapevine's British Emporium will host a weekend of Monty Python-inspired silliness July 18 - 20. The second Monty Python Madness event will benefit local charities.

British Emporium co-owner Sheela Kadam said the event is sort of like the annual meeting of its Monty Python Appreciation Society.

  • BREAKING NEWS - JUDITH TO RESCUE BRIAN!

Sue460x276.jpg The real Judith Iscariot is now poised to rescue Brian from the governing authorities

She is immortalised on celluloid for her role in what is repeatedly referred to as one of the funniest films of all time - not to mention its famous nude scene. But these days Sue Jones-Davies, who starred as Judith Iscariot, fiery revolutionary and girlfriend of the messiah in Monty Python's Life of Brian, has a more sedate political role -...

    by: Kim "Howard" Johnson

Near and dear to the hearts of Python fans is Scottish poet Ewan McTeagle, who made his first and only Flying Circus appearance in Episode 16. The Poet McTeagle, as portrayed by Terry Jones, dressed in Highland regalia, complete with kilt, was the author of such works as “Lend us a quid till...

  • A truly silly tribute to Monty Python

Monty Python fans get ready to do their bit (several bits, actually) for charity
    By: MARK AGEE

GRAPEVINE — Sheela Kadam knows how she developed her "warped sense of humor."

As a child growing up in England, she would sneak downstairs after her bedtime and watch Monty Python’s Flying Circus with her older brother.

When she moved to the United States in 1989, Kadam was shocked to run into so many fans of the classic...

Idle Books

Eric Idle recently visited PythOnline HQ at the utility closet on the left, we had asked him if he had read any good books lately (as he is an avid reader of good books) He graciously sent us a list of his current nightstand favourites. Read along (if you can keep up!)

The Scramble for Africa by Thomas Pakenham

Murder in Amsterdam by Ian Buruma about modern Holland and Muslimism after the murder of Theo Van Gogh

  • Stephen Collins and King Arthur

    StephenCollins.jpg By: Kathy Henderson

One of the strengths of Spamalot is that it can thrive with many different interpretations of King Arthur. The central role in this long-running musical has been played with wild-eyed glee (Tim Curry, Simon Russell Beale), mock seriousness (Harry Groener) and as a straightforward straight man (Jonathan Hadary). Now comes an appealingly...

  • It's the Holy Grail of roles

Tony winner Gary Beach has funalot in Spamalot
    By: Glen Schaefer, The Province

When Gary Beach was at university, aiming for a Broadway career, he never expected the Spanish Inquisition.

He got the Broadway career -- Beach won a Tony award for his stage portrayal of the flamboyant director in The Producers -- but a then-obscure British TV comedy series that was playing in his early-1970s student days later came...

  • Bhaskar is new Spamalot star

spamalot_243x317.jpg By: Fiona Mountford, Evening Standard

Goodness gracious me! The latest actor to tread in the clipclopping coconut shell hoofprints of King Arthur in this musical "lovingly ripped off from" Monty Python and the Holy Grail is Sanjeev Bhaskar. The star of The Kumars at No42 slots in easily, although he might find summer a hot time to wear chain mail in a theatre with no air...

  • Latest News: Bhaskar’s nervous night with Python

    By: Official London Theatre Guide

Sanjeev Bhaskar’s nerves were rattled last night, not because of the press gathered for his official first night in Monty Python’s Spamalot, but because of the presence of former Python Terry Jones.

“We’re speaking out some of the lines that he wrote in one of the most classic British comedy films of all time,” the newly...

  • So She Thought: A trip to Camelot

    By: Diane Sayre

One of my favorite movie lines of all time was said in the film, "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." It comes right after a Buzby Berkley-type musical extravaganza extols the virtues of Camelot to the Knights of the Round Table, who have traveled to its gates from afar in order to visit it.

In the film, King Arthur (played by Graham...

  • Cleese 'prefers lemur over peerage'

    cleeeeeese.jpg By: The Press Association

Monty Python star John Cleese revealed that he regarded having a species of lemur named after him as a greater honour than a knighthood or a peerage.

The comic actor returned to Bristol Zoo Gardens to discuss conservation, his childhood in the West Country and three fund-raising performances to be held within the grounds of the zoo.

Veteran funnyman John Cleese took a trip down memory lane today with a visit to Bristol Zoo - the venue for many a family day out as a boy.

The Monty Python actor and star of Fawlty Towers is in the city this week to perform three nights on stage at the zoo in aid of its conservation projects with broadcaster, Chris Serle.

  • Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith Take in Spamalot and In the Heights

    grifithbanderas.jpg By: Sourcr: Broadway.com - Photos by Bruce Glikas/Broadway.com

Talented married couple Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas haven't been seen on a Broadway stage since 2003, when he starred in the revival of Nine, and she earned rave reviews as Roxie Hart in Chicago. But the couple got a major Broadway fix on July 8 and 9 by checking out Spamalot and a matinee of In the Heights, respectively.

  • The Stage Reviews SPAMALOT

The revolving portcullis at Castle Camelot has struck again, with comic actor Sanjeev Bhaskar becoming the final King Arthur of the show’s London run.

It is clear from the outset that neither singing nor dancing are Bhaskar’s strengths, but he adequately compensates with a sense of comic timing and a taste for the absurd that are...

  • Life's a Beach for king of theatrical comedy

    By: Peter Birnie, Vancouver Sun

Looking for a great Beach? Try Gary. Gary Beach stars as King Arthur in Spamalot, the goofy musical lifted by Eric Idle (or, as he puts it, "lovingly ripped off") from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. What was once a low-budget cult movie starring Idle and his fellow Flying Circus freaks is now a big-bucks Broadway musical, playing until July...

  • Goodness gracious Ni! - Sanjeev Bhaskar interview

    By: Nick Curtis

Who’d have thought that Sanjeev Bhaskar, the star of ‘The Kumars at No 42’, would end up playing King Arthur in a Monty Python musical?
AS HE makes me a cup of tea in his South Woodford kitchen, Sanjeev Bhaskar apologises for being below par. The 44-year-old British Indian actor, writer and comedian was on stage last night,...

  • Which Monty Python metaphor fits Hillary Clinton best?

    By: Mark Caro

Apparently I’m not the only one on a Monty Python kick. So are some political pundits seeking metaphors for Hillary Clinton’s never-say-die presidential campaign. On Wednesday the Washington Post’s Dana Milbank compared Clinton to the very same ex-parrot of the previous Pop Machine posting:

And last week on the Huffington Post,...
